Shirley Chisholm (1924-2005)

Long before Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton made their political marks, there was Shirley Chisholm.  Little known Shirley was the first black woman to give a shot at the US presidency in a major political party. She embodies the phrase woman of ‘many firsts’, as she was the first African-American congresswoman and the first black woman to run for the Democratic Party’s presidential nomination.
