If your gums bleed when you brush your teeth, you could be at higher risk of the blood disorder anaemia. An Indian study showed severe gum disease (chronic periodontitis) may cause a reduction in red blood cells and haemoglobin. The good news is that treatment of gum disease can improve red blood cells count in only three to six months. So don’t ignore bleeding gums, see a dentist.
